All-West Region Baseball Teams Announced; CSUSM's Zech Samayoa named West Region Player of the Year

May 20, 2026

The NCBWA and D2CCA All-West Region Baseball Team was announced earlier this week, with 19 CCAA student-athletes receiving recognition, including Cal State San Marcos' Zech Samayoa, who was the unanimous selection as the 2026 West Region Player of the Year.

In addition to his regional player of the year honors, Samayoa was also selected as the first-team designated hitter on both the NCBWA and D2CCA all-region teams after leading the West with 23 home runs (fourth NCAA) and 78 RBI (10th NCAA).

The CCAA also swept all four catcher spots. Cal State San Bernardino's Dom Dominguez earned both first-team spots, and Cal State Dominguez Hills' Nigel Buckley collected the second-team selections.

CCAA student-athletes were well-represented in the infield, with first-team honorees at first base, second base, and shortstop. CSUSB's Garret Barto collected the honor at first base, and Eddie Alfaro was the unanimous pick at shortstop. Cal State Dominguez Hills' Quinn Johnson swept first-team honors at second base.

In the outfield, Cal State San Marcos' Canon King was named to the NCBWA first team and to the D2CCA second team. He was joined on that D2CCA second team by Cal State Monterey Bay's Bobby Benavidez and Cal Poly Pomona's Jack Sanders. Benavidez and Sanders also collected NCBWA second team honors along with Cal State LA's Cesar Chavez.

At the utility positions, Cal State San Bernardino's Tyson Pettingill earned first team on the D2CCA squad. Cal State San Marcos' Christopher Tampoya collected second team honors along with Cal State LA's Jonathan Manuel, who was named second team as the utility/pitcher. Cal State LA's Omar Gonzalez was voted to the NCBWA second team.

On the mound, Cal State Monterey Bay's Andrew Kotin earned a pair of first-team honors. Chico State's reliever Manny Lopez was also voted to both all-region first teams. Andrew Campbell (CPP), Anthony Vasquez (CPP), and Rocco Borrelli (CHICO) each received D2CCA and NCBWA second-team awards.

Cal State East Bay's Caleb Chance (3B) and Chico State's Jakob Poole (SP) were NCBWA honorable mentions.

In total, Cal State San Bernardino paced the CCAA with seven all-region selections between the D2CCA and NCBWA teams. Cal Poly Pomona was second with six, followed by Cal State San Marcos with five. Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Cal State Dominguez Hills each placed four student-athletes on the all-region team. Cal State LA had three.

The first-teamers from the D2CCA all-region team will advance to the All-America ballot.
