SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Cal State San Marcos dropped two softball games to Western Washington in the NCAA Super Regional on Friday, May 16.
The Cougars entered the day needing to win one game to advance to the NCAA Championships, but it was the Vikings that came away with two victories.
Game 1 [Box score]
Western Washington's Kaiana Kong pitched a complete game, allowing only one run to lift the Vikings to a 4-1 win in Friday's opener. The sophomore right-hander allowed nine hits and three walks. She did not strike out a batter.
Emma Andrewjeski put WWU on the board first with a bases-loaded double in the third. The Vikings would tack on another in the fourth on an RBI single by Kanilehua Pitoy.
Cal State San Marcos would cut the lead to 3-1 on a single by pinch hitter Dahlia Fink in the sixth. That brought the go-ahead run to the plate, but Kong was able to induce a groundout to get out of the jam.

Olivia Matlock's three-run homer in the fourth inning proved to be the difference for Western Washington in a 3-2 win over Cal State San Marcos in the 2025 NCAA Super Regional championship game.
A solo home run by Paige Donnelly and a run-scoring single by Makenzie Guiliano gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead after two innings.
WWU rallied for all three of its runs in the fourth. Andrewjeski led off with a walk. She was pulled for a pinch runner who reached third base on a sacrifice bunt. One batter later, Matlock homered to give the Vikings their first lead of the game.
Joie Baker earned the win. She went all seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs. She did not walk a batter and struck out one.
Jayline Sloss threw all six innings for CSUSM. She gave up five hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out three.

Western Washington will advance to the NCAA Div. II Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. Games will begin on Thursday, May 22.
