Jun 16, 2026

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos softball staff was selected by its peers as the 2026 ATEC/NFCA Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year.

Led by head coach AJ Robinson, assistant coach Alyssa Razo, and volunteer assistant Haylee De Jong, the Cal State San Marcos Cougars put together their best season since joining Division II in 2015.

CSUSM reached its first NCAA Championships under Robinson and second in the last three seasons (Robinson was an assistant coach on the 2024 squad). It earned the program’s first-ever No. 1 ranking in the NFCA/GoRout DII Top 25 Coaches Poll and was ranked fourth or higher all season, ending the regular season in that position.

After winning the CCAA regular-season championship and the NCAA West Super Regional in an instant classic against Biola, the Cougars advanced to Chattanooga, where they were the No. 4 seed.

Under this trio of coaches, CSUSM set the program record with 57 wins (57-12) and advanced further in the postseason than at any time in history. Jillian Albayati was also named an All-American along with CCAA and West Region Player of the Year after setting the conference record in batting average (.517) and RBI (80).
