POMONA, Calif. - It will be an all CCAA lineup in the NCAA Volleyball West Region Championship game for the second straight year after Cal Poly Pomona and San Francisco State won their semifinal matches on Friday, Dec. 6.

#1 Cal Poly Pomona 3, #4 Point Loma 1
Landen Allison-Bullock posted a career-high 17 kills, and No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona paired it with double-doubles by Sarah Ybarra and Samantha Campion to defeat No. 4 seed Point Loma in the NCAA West Region semifinals (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19).

Allison-Bullock entered the regional with only 21 kills on the season but has stepped up in the NCAA playoffs with 25 kills through two matches. In the semifinals, she led the team in kills (17), points (18.5), and hitting percentage (.289) to help the Broncos claim their first regional championship match berth since 2008.

D2CCA West Region Player of the Year, Samantha Campion registered her third consecutive double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs. Sarah Ybarra posted her second straight double-double, and fourth in her last five matches, with 13 kills and 22 digs. Caitie Mueller had an outstanding all-around match with 43 assists, eight digs, five kills, and three blocks. Avery Percival added 20 digs, Helen McMullin six blocks and Jenna O'Shea chipped in with four aces.

PacWest Player of the Year Abigail Nua paced Point Loma with a match-high 22 kills. She also posted 11 digs (second on the team) and three aces. She was the only Sea Lion with double-figure kills.

Point Loma took the opening set with a timely late run. PLNU tied the match at 20-20 and then proceeded to win five of the following seven points to close the set with a 25-20 win.

The Broncos answered in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. The set was tied 14-14 before Cal Poly Pomona outscored Point Loma 11-4 down the stretch and closed the set on two aces by O'Shea.

Like the first two sets, the third would be determined by whichever team put together the late run. A service error tied the match at 21-21. Back-to-back kills by Campion and Alexia Athans put CPP up two (23-21). A kill by Point Loma brought the Sea Lions within one (23-22). CPP would then benefit from two PLNU errors to win the set 25-22.

Cal Poly Pomona seized control early in the fourth set, going in front 9-3. It would hold at least a three-point lead throughout. The Sea Lions cut the deficit to three at 22-19 before CPP closed the set and the match with two blocks and a kill by Mueller.

The Broncos finished the match with 63 kills and a .246 hitting percentage. They hit at least .222 in each set with 15 kills. CPP's defense also held Point Loma to 45 kills and a .161 hitting mark.

Cal Poly Pomona will advance to the NCAA West Regional Championship on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. The Broncos will face the No. 2 seed and CCAA foe San Francisco State.

#2 San Francisco State 3, #3 Chaminade 1
A day after collecting the first NCAA postseason win in program history, San Francisco State doubled down with a four-set win over No. 4 Chaminade to earn a spot in the 2024 NCAA West Regional Championship match.

Izzy Issak bounced back from a tough match on Thursday to record 15 kills with only two errors (.265 hitting%). She added eight digs and four blocks en route to leading the team with 18.5 points. Tamiya Wilson also had 15 kills and chipped in with 11 digs for the double-double. Anastacia Garza and Aidan Goodrich came through with eight and nine kills, respectively. Kimberly DeBoer dished out 40 assists and just missed her double-double with nine digs.

Letizia Cammillucci led Chaminade with 16 kills and 13 digs. Mahala Ka'apuni (12) and Anna Stucchi (11) also reached double-figures in kills. Nanna Inoue had 19 digs.

The match did not look good for the Gators early as Chaminade began by hitting .484 with no errors to win the first set 25-13. The second set was going in the same direction as SF State fell behind 12-6 and 17-11. From that point forward, the Gators were a whole different team. They scored seven of the next nine points to cut the deficit to one (19-18). After a point by the Silverswords, SF State would go on a 7-1 run to close out the set (25-21) and tie the match.

The critical third set swung back and forth early until it was tied at 15-15. SF State would then put Chaminade away with a 10-2 run. Both offenses came out swinging in the fourth set, with each posting a hitting percentage of .296 or better. Again, the Gators' ability to close the set earned them the win. They led by just one at 21-20 before scoring four of the last five points to clinch the set and the match.

San Francisco State will advance to the NCAA West Regional Championship on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. The Gators will face the No. 1 seed and CCAA foe Cal Poly Pomona.
