San Francisco State will play for the national championship! Gators upset #3 Angelo State to advance

[Box score] [NCAA Bracket]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The San Francisco State Gators play for the NCAA Volleyball National Championship! SF State entered the postseason without an NCAA win in program history, and now it is on the verge of playing for the right to hoist to championship trophy.

It was not an easy match in the semifinals as the Gators had to overcome No. 3 Angelo State in four sets to advance (21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22). It was their third consecutive win over a top-10 team.

Anastacia Garza's 19 kills led four Gators in double-figures. The sophomore middle blocker hit .533 percent with only three errors in 30 swings. Aidan Goodrich posted 16 kills and a .235 hitting percentage. Izzy Issak added a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs. Tamiya Wilson also had a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs.

Kimberly DeBoer's 53 assists matched her total from the Round of 8 and are the fourth-most in a four-set match in the CCAA this season. Brianna DeBoer added 23 digs, and Katie Parker led the team with four blocks.

SF State's offense was just too much for Angelo State to handle for the full length of the match. The Belles earned the opening set victory despite SFSU posting four more kills (16-12) but it was all Gators after that point.

San Francisco State outhit Angelo State .211 to .122 in the second set to even the match at 1-1. In the third set, SF State put up 18 kills compared to nine for the Belles to go in front with a 25-23 set win.

The fourth set was controlled from the start by SF State as it went in front 9-4 and 16-7. Angelo State made a final effort to get back in the match and extend its season, cutting the score to 24-22, but a kill by Garza ended the set and sent the Gators to the championship.

SF State will play for the championship on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. PST. The Gators will face No. 4 Lynn for the title.
