SAN DIEGO - Cal State San Bernardino battled No. 1 seed Point Loma through five sets and into extra points before falling 25-20, 15-25, 15-25, 25-19, and 19-21 in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Volleyball West Regional.

Kacie Pedersen led CSUSB (22-6, 15-3 CCAA) with 19 kills, and she added 13 digs for the double-double. Sarai Ross also reached double-figures in kills with 12. McKenna Edwards posted her own double-double with 43 assists and 16 digs. Jayden Chornomud recorded a match-best 31 digs.

Abigail Nua paced Point Loma (25-4, 11-1 PacWest) with 24 kills. Saren Rogers added 17. Sophia Baugh had 56 assists in the four sets, and three Sea Lions recorded 22 or more digs.

The Coyotes used a strong defensive effort at the net to dominate in blocks, 8-4, and cause 28 hitting errors by PLNU.

That block helped CSUSB jump out to a 25-20 first-set win. The Coyotes held PLNU to a 0.056 hitting percentage, forcing them into 11 hitting errors, double the most they would have in any set all night.

The second and third sets both went to Point Loma, but CSUSB was unfazed and bounced back with its best set of the day in set four. The Coyotes posted their best hitting percentage in any set (.394) and got kills from eight different student-athletes.

The fifth set started badly for Cal State San Bernardino as it fell behind 8-3. It battled back with a 7-2 run after switching sides and tied the match at 10-10. From there, the teams would trade points with PLNU having a match point more than CSUSB.

The Coyotes would earn their first game point on a kill by Ross to go in front 19-18. Point Loma responded by scoring three straight points to earn the win.
