LOS ANGELES -- Cal Poly Pomona freshman
Will Rudy has been selected in the fifth round at No. 162 overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft.
Rudy becomes the highest selection by a Bronco in the MLB Draft since Cody Ponce was selected 55th overall in 2015, also by Milwaukee. He is the 86th baseball student-athlete from Cal Poly Pomona to be selected in the MLB draft, and the 17th Bronco drafted in the
Randy Betten era. Rudy also becomes just the 12th Bronco all-time to picked in the first five rounds.

In his only full season with the Broncos in 2022, Rudy was the first CPP player since 2016 to earn All-America honors. As the ace of the pitching rotation, he helped lead the Broncos to a second-place finish in the CCAA, a CCAA Tournament title and a NCAA West Region appearance.
The freshman right-hander, who was also named the CCAA's Most Valuable Pitcher this season, was third in the CCAA in earned run average (3.10), and he led the league in wins (8) and strikeouts (96), which were the ninth-most in a single-season in program history. Opponents hit just .228 off Rudy, and he walked only 15 batters in 87.0 innings. Rudy went at least six innings in 12 of his 13 starts, and the Broncos won every one of those games. He had two starts with 12 strikeouts, including a one-hit shutout of Sonoma State.
