[Box score]

Cal State LA fell to No. 1 seed Concordia-St. Paul in the NCAA Volleyball Division II Championship semifinals, 25-16, 25-21, and 25-14, on Friday, Dec. 2, in Seattle.

The defense for the Bears gave the No. 4 seeded Golden Eagles trouble all match. They limited Cal State LA to a .083 hitting percentage and outblocked them 11-2.

Emily Elliott posted 15 kills and five digs in the loss. Jasmine Mulvihill led Concordia-St. Paul with 12 kills on 28 swings (three errors). She was the only Bear in double-figures, but four student-athletes had seven or more kills in the three sets.

The match began with Concordia-St. Paul winning the first three points and seven of the first nine, and the Golden Eagles seemed to play with less aggression than they had during any other point in their run to the NCAA semifinals. The Bear never relinquished the lead, and Cal State LA fell 25-16.

Cal State LA came out strong in set 2 and looked like they might be able to get a win and even the match. It seized a 10-8 lead and trailed just 15-14, but CSP scored five of the following seven points to widen its lead to 20-16. The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to one at 21-20, but the Bears outscored them 4-1 down the final stretch to secure the second set.

An early 8-4 run by CSP was extended to a 16-6 run in the third set. It never let its foot off the gas on the way to a 25-14 win and a return to the NCAA Championship match for the first time since 2017.

Cal State LA ends its season at 25-7. The Golden Eagles won the CCAA regular-season title and the NCAA West Region Championship.

Concordia-St. Paul (31-5) will play West Texas A&M for the Division II Championship on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m.
