The No. 3 seed Cal State LA claimed a spot in the NCAA West Regional semifinals with a four-set win over the No. 6 seed Sonoma State (25-19, 20-25, 25-22, and 25-13).
Emily Elliott posted 19 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the season. Iane Henke added 13 kills with a .367 hitting percentage. Eliza Cannon and Jaden Grova combined for 37 assists, and Haley Roundtree registered six blocks.
Jaden Krist and Kiana Richardson paced Sonoma State with 10 and 13 kills, respectively. Krist added 10 digs to post the double-double. Jen Trephan also had a double-double with 16 digs and 18 assists. Megan Trottier hit .400 as she put down nine kills with just one error in 20 swings.
After splitting the first two sets, the match was up for grabs, and Cal State LA seized on that opportunity to return to the regional semifinals. The Golden Eagles hit .294 over the final two sets and held the Seawolves to a .086 hitting percentage.
In the final set, Cal State LA put together an 8-0 run, which extended to a 15-3 run to earn the win. Ashley Dittmann had five of her nine kills in the set. Henke and Elliott added three apiece.
Cal State LA will advance to the regional semifinals to face the No. 7 seed Central Washington who pulled the upset over the host Western Washington late Thursday. The Golden Eagles are the highest remaining seed in the field and will face the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18.
