Seven collect volleyball All-American honors

2021 AVCA All-Americans>>>

Seven volleyball student-athletes from around the CCAA can proudly call themselves All-Americans. Alexis Cardoza, Jalyn Hayes, Karla Santos, Jessica Haynie, Marlee Nunley, Kira Zimmerman, and Daisy Duke put together outstanding seasons to earn their place on AVCA or D2CCA All-American teams for the 2021 season.

Alexis Cardoza, an outside hitter from Cal State San Bernardino, earned first team All-American honors for both the AVCA and D2CCA. Cardoza led the CCAA and ranked 19th in the country with 3.97 kills per set. She was also in the top 25 nationally in points per set and total kills. Cardoza was named the AVCA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and an All-American for the third straight year.

Cal State San Bernardino's middle blocker Jalyn Hayes captured second team AVCA and third team D2CCA All-American honors after helping the Yotes win the CCAA regular-season and tournament championships. The junior paced the CCAA with a .382 hitting percentage while ranking 12th in NCAA Division II. Hayes also finished among the national leaders in blocks per set (28th, 1.15) and total blocks (31st, 120).

Karla Santos was voted a second-team All-American. Cal State LA's senior outside hitter ranked in the top 10 in the CCAA in many categories, including kills per set (3rd, 3.68), digs per set (9th, 3.36), and points per set (4th, 4.09). She is a four-time first team All-CCAA selection. Santos capped off her career by leading the Golden Eagles to the finals of the NCAA West Regional.

Daisy Duke was named a third team AVCA All-American. The sophomore opposite side hitter from Cal Poly Pomona finished third in the conference in hitting percentage (.360), fifth in kills per set (3.43), and seventh in points per set (3.82). Duke helped lead the Broncos to a 23-win season and a spot in the NCAA West Regional.

Duke's teammate Kira Zimmerman picked up honorable mention All-American honors as a setter. The senior was instrumental in helping Cal Poly Pomona go from eight wins in 2019 to 23 wins in 2021. Zimmerman ranked second in the CCAA and 37th in NCAA Division II with 10.36 assists per set. She was also among the national leaders in aces, ranking 28th with 49 aces on the season.

Jessica Haynie represented San Francisco State on the AVCA All-American team as an honorable mention. The senior outside hitter ranked second in the CCAA and 35th in the country with 3.80 kills per set. She was named the AVCA National Player of the Week when she averaged 5.44 kills in a pair of victories to help San Francisco State complete a perfect home season (16-0).

Marlee Nunley gave Cal State San Bernardino its third All-American selection. The sophomore setter paced the CCAA and ranked 13th in the country with 11.05 assists per set. She finished 21st overall with 1,193 assists on the season. Nunley played a critical role for the Yotes all season in the middle. She helped Cal State San Bernardino put together its second straight undefeated conference season and win its fifth consecutive CCAA Tournament Championship.
