PUEBLO, Colo. - Cal State San Marcos entered the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional as the No. 3 seed, and it upset the No. 2 and No. 8 teams in the country to win its first regional title.
The Cougars posted a score of 907 (+55) over 54 holes in two days to edge No. 2 Dallas Baptist by seven strokes (914, +62) and No. 8 UT Tyler by 22 strokes (929). The victory secures Cal State San Marcos its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
CSUSM posted a first-round score of 299 (+15), and followed up with a 305 (+21) during the second 18-holes on Monday to stand tied with DBU (604) going into the final round.
The back nine on Tuesday is where the Cougars earned their regional trophy. They combined as a group to shoot a 151 (+7) and outscore DBU by seven strokes over those nine holes.
Avery Foster shot a 36 on the back nine and finished with a 74 (+3) in the third round. She placed second at the regional with a 224 (+11). The 2025-26 CCAA Golfer of the Year tied for second in the regional with nine birdies, and she was tied for third in par-4 scoring (+6).
Kiara Hernandez tied for sixth, giving CSUSM two in the top 10. Hernandez opened with a 72 (+1), and followed with a 78 (+7) and a 77 (+6).
Carmella Carlisi (t16th) and
Ellaclair Leedom (t28th) provided the other counting scores in the third round.
Cal State LA, which was also representing the CCAA, finished tied for 11th with a 948 (+96), and Cal State East Bay was 13th with a 962 (+110).
CSUSM will now advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships on May 12-16 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
