PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - For the second consecutive year, Cal State San Marcos finished in the top eight as a team in stroke play at the NCAA Women's Golf National Championships. The Cougars will now advance to match-medal play, where scores will reset and the national champion will ultimately be decided.
CSUSM posted a plus-19 (307) in the first round and a plus-7 (295) in the second round. It finished with a 28-over (316) in the final round as almost all team scorers were higher on the final 18 holes.
Kiara Hernandez paced the Cougars with a 227 (+11) as she tied for 22nd place. She posted a 73 (+1) and a 75 (+3) before finishing with a 79 (+7).
Abby Sickles tied for 39th with 232 (+16). Her best score came in the second round with a 72 (E).
Avery Foster's best round was also the second. She birdied four of the first five holes and finished the front nine 5-under par (31). Foster completed her second round with a 74 (+2), to go along with her first-round score of 79 (+7) and final-round score of 80 (+8). The Cougars would also get a 237 (+21) from
Ellaclair Leedom and a 240 (+24) from
Carmella Carlisi. Every golfer contributed with at least one counting round score.
The No. 1-ranked team in the country, Wingate, won stroke play by 20 shots (877) with Amely Bochaton taking the individual title by 13 strokes (203, -13). She was the only golfer to finish under par.

Cal State San Marcos will face St. Mary's (TX) in the quarterfinals of match medal play, beginning on Friday, May 15. Tee time is set for 5:14 a.m. PST.
