ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The CCAA was the best volleyball conference in the West last year, putting four of the right teams in the West Regional, and one of them making a run to the national championship match. It looks as though this could be another outstanding year as CCAA teams up and down the conference return deep and talented squads.
The conference coaches selected
Cal Poly Pomona to repeat as regular-season champions after the Broncos received 143 points and 11 of the 12 first-place votes in the CCAA Volleyball Preseason Poll, presented by
Pollo Campero.

It was a very close vote for second place, where only two points separated three teams.

Cal State San Bernardino was listed third with 116 points, and
Cal State LA fourth with 115 points.
Fifth place went to
Stanislaus State with 103 points, and
Cal State East Bay claimed the No. 6 spot (80 points). The teams listed in the top 6 spots of the preseason poll all made the CCAA Tournament last season, and the top 5 are all receiving votes in the
AVCA preseason poll.
Cal State San Marcos finished seventh in the preseason voting with 69 points, and
Cal State Monterey Bay was eighth with 50 points.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (47 points),
Cal Poly Humboldt (43),
Chico State (36), and
UC Merced (17) rounded out the 2025 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Poll.
Cal Poly Pomona went 25-4 last season and earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Regional. The Broncos dropped their fifth match of the season before winning 18 straight matches, including their first 16 in conference play. CPP did not drop its first CCAA match until mid-November. It climbed as high as No. 3 in the AVCA national rankings and made a run to the NCAA Regional Championship. The Broncos will bring back the 2024 CCAA Newcomer of the Year,
Charlotte Koerber, first-team All-CCAA outside hitter
Sarah Ybarra, and starting middle blocker
Alexia Athans.
San Francisco State (26-7, 15-3 CCAA) had an incredible postseason run, going from the No. 3 seed in the West Region to the NCAA Championship match. The Gators were ranked No. 7 at the final site and upset the No. 2 and No. 3 teams to reach the program's first NCAA Championship. It was the third time in the past five seasons that a CCAA team has played in the NCAA Championship match. SF State was as good as any team at home, winning 13 of 14 matches. Decorated senior
Tamiya Wilson will be back to lead the Gators' attack from the right side, and NCAA All-Tournament selection
Aidan Goodrich is back at outside hitter.
Cal State San Bernardino posted a 15-11 record in 2024 and finished sixth in the CCAA standings with an 11-7 conference mark. The coaches are expecting the Coyotes to take a step forward this year and placed them third in the preseason poll. CSUSB ranked third in the CCAA last season in blocks per set (2.12) and hitting percentage (.222). It should be strong in both these categories again, with the return of outside hitter
Savannah Hoffmann and middle blocker
M'Kera Drake.
Cal State LA is only two years removed from winning the NCAA Championship, and it still has many student-athletes who gained experience during that run on its roster. The Golden Eagles went 18-11 in 2024, but showed how good they could be, especially in the postseason. Cal State LA reached the CCAA Championship match as the No. 4 seed and pushed SF State to five sets in the regional before suffering its first NCAA postseason loss in nearly two years. Four members of Cal State LA's team made the CCAA Preseason Watchlist after they earned All-CCAA first or second team honors or were named to the all-tournament team. This includes outside hitters
Samarah DaCoud (So.) and
Zuhal Cetin (Sr.), middle blocker
Havannah Vogel (So.), and libero
Jameson Sanders (Sr.).
Stanislaus State collected its first CCAA Volleyball Championship ever as it made a run to the CCAA Tournament title match, winning in four sets against Cal State LA. It also earned an automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional, marking another first for the program. The Warriors were dominant in the middle, where they led the conference and ranked 16th in NCAA Division II with 2.51 blocks per set. The 2024 CCAA Freshman of the Year, Malia Tanksley, and all-tournament selection
Isabella Saucedo are back to help lead another successful season for Stan State.
Cal State East Bay earned the No. 6 seed in the CCAA Tournament last season after going 8-10 in conference play. The Pioneers were one of the most complete defensive teams in the conference as they ranked fourth in blocks per set (1.94) and digs per set (15.43). CSUEB will return four student-athletes who started at least 11 matches last season.
Cal State San Marcos has made the CCAA Tournament every other year over the past four years, and if the pattern holds, they are due for the postseason this year. The Cougars went 7-11 in CCAA play. They closed out the season with momentum as the Cougars won five of their last six matches.
Cal State Monterey Bay earned the No. 8 spot in the preseason poll with 50 points, followed closely by
Cal State Dominguez Hills with 47 points. Cal Poly Humboldt (43), Chico State (36), and UC Merced (17) completed the 2025 CCAA Coaches Preseason Poll.
