Twelve CCAA student-athletes, including one relay team, collected U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors for the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Men's Track & Field season. Seven individuals earned USTFCCCA All-America first team honors, and five were placed on the second team.
Seniors
Alessio Sommacal, Nnamdi Onwaeze, and freshman
Collin Joyce represented Cal Poly Pomona on the USTFCCCA All-America first team.
Chico State had the most overall All-Americans as
Hunter Dougherty earned first-team honors and all five second-team selections from the conference went to the Wildcats.
Damian Garcia was joined by the 4x400m relay team featuring
Trey Suffredini,
Brody Staley,
Quincy Patton and
Vincent Rinaldi.
The CCAA saw two more receive first-team honors. Stanislaus State's
Trent Lauderdale collected All-America honors for the second time. Cal Poly Humboldt's
Michael Payan became the first Lumberjack since 2018 to earn first team honors.
Alessio Sommacal capped off his decorated career at Cal Poly Pomona by earning USTFCCCA first-team All-America honors for the first time. After collecting second-team honors in the 110m hurdles in 2022 and 2024, he moved up to the first team in the 400m hurdles this year with a season-best time of 50.58 in the NCAA Championship (fifth place).
Trent Lauderdale was a second-team All-American selection in the 400m hurdles in 2023 before moving to the first team in 2025. He placed fourth at the NCAA National Championship this season with a career-best time of 50.16.
Kalathan Laiwa-McKay became the first men's track & field student-athlete in Cal State San Marcos history to capture All-America honors. The senior from Ukiah, Calif., earned first-team honors in the shot put after placing sixth at the NCAA Championships. His best mark came at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet, where he registered a mark of 59-10.5 (18.25m).
Nnamdi Onwaeze and Collin Joyce joined Sommacal to give Cal Poly Pomona three first-team All-Americans. It is the third time in the last four seasons that the Broncos have placed at least three student-athletes on the USTFCCCA All-America team. Onwaeze earned his medal in the men's 110m hurdles after placing sixth in the finals. The senior set his career-best mark in the prelims with a time of 13.63.
Collin Joyce was one of the two CCAA freshmen to make the All-America team. The redshirt from Chatsworth, Calif., put together a masterful performance at nationals to become the conference's first All-American in the triple jump since 2019. Joyce registered a mark of 52-2.5 (15.91m), which was two feet longer than his previous season-best and earned him fifth place.
Cal Poly Humboldt's
Michael Payan also collected All-America honors as a freshman after clearing 17-5.5 (5.32m) in the pole vault and taking fifth place at the NCAA Championships. He won the CCAA Championship in his first season, and his mark is a Cal Poly Humboldt school record.
Hunter Dougherty's performance in the 3k steeplechase gave Chico State a first-team All-American for the first time since 2022 (Cristian Brady & Rory Abberton). Running the event on consecutive days, the senior from Chico placed sixth at the NCAA Championships with a time of 9:04.63.
Damian Garcia earned his first career USTFCCCA All-America honor in the 1500m. Garcia was one of the top performers in the event all season. He posted a season-best time of 3:39.47 at the APU Franson Last Chance meet before taking ninth at the NCAA Championships.
Trey Suffredini,
Brody Staley,
Quincy Patton, and
Vincent Rinaldi represented Chico State in the 4x400m relay at the national championships. After winning the CCAA Championship in one of the most epic races in conference history, these four runners earned a place in the NCAA Championship. They took ninth place to become Chico State's first USTFCCCA All-America relay team since the Wildcats joined the CCAA in 1998.
