Jul 22, 2025

Cal State East Bay was named to the 2024-25 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll announced Thursday, July 17, by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes college women’s basketball teams across the nation in their respective divisions that carry the highest combined GPAs, including all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2024-25 season is the 30th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

Under the guidance of coach Jenny Thigpin, the Pioneers ranked 13th in all of NCAA Division II with a 3.76 grade point average. This is the first time since at least 2020 that any team in the CCAA has been selected for this prestigious honor.

“The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women’s basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew.  “The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!”

Four other CCAA teams earned a special mention by the WBCA with a combined GPA at 3.0 or better: Cal Poly Pomona (3.542), Cal State Monterey Bay (3.316), Cal State San Marcos (3.316), and Cal State San Bernardino (3.249).
