ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The CCAA will send two women's soccer teams to the NCAA West Regional.
Cal Poly Pomona earned an at-large bid and the No. 2 seed.
Cal Poly Humboldt will be the No. 7 seed after earning the conference's automatic bid.
Cal Poly Pomona won the CCAA regular-season title for the third consecutive season wigth a 7-1-3 conference record and a 14-2-3 mark overall. The Broncos are the defending NCAA Champions after it won five playoff matches last season to hoist the championship trophy.
Vanessa Cruz was named the CCAA Player of the Year for the second straight season after leading the CCAA with 11 goals (four more than second place) and 24 points (six more than second place). As a team, CPP paced the CCAA in goal differential (plus-22), goals against average (.579) and scoring offense (1.74). This is the Broncos seventh NCAA postseason appearance in program history.
Cal Poly Humboldt made a legendary run through the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, presented by FloCollege, becoming the first No. 5 seed to ever win the championship. The Lumberjacks defeated the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 seeds on their path, holding all three without a goal. Humboldt will bring an 8-5-8 record and a shutout streak of 311 consecutive minutes into the tournament.
Ariana Beddoes and
Carson Thomson-Terrel have split time at keeper. The duo has helped Humboldt post the best save percentage (.833) and shutout percentage (.619) in the conference. Thomson-Terrel is at the top of the entire league with an .818 save percentage.
Karsyn Ross leads the team with four goals and
Heidie Munoz paces the team with four assists. This is Cal Poly Humboldt's first NCAA playoff appearance as a member of the CCAA, and second overall (1996).
Cal Poly Humboldt will face Cal Poly Pomona in the first round on Friday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. The winner will face the winner of Simon Fraser and Western Oregon on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m.
Western Washington earned the No. 1 seed in the West and the right to host the other half of the regional. The Vikings will receive a first-round bye before facing the winner of Point Loma and Azusa Pacific on Saturday.
