SEASIDE, Calif. - Alexis Blue scored in the 75th minute to break a scoreless tie and lift the No. 5 seed, Cal Poly Humboldt, to its first CCAA Tournament Championship with a 1-0 win over the No. 2 seed, Chico State at Cardinale Stadium.

The Lumberjacks had to go through the No. 4, No. 2, and No. 1 seeds to earn the right to hoist the tournament trophy, and their defense was up for the challenge in each match.

After posting a shutout on the road at Cal State San Bernardino and winning in penalty kicks, Cal Poly Humboldt came into the semifinals as the lowest-seeded team. It proceeded to knock off the two favorites without allowing a goal and scoring only twice.

Alexis Blue would break the tie on a sliding shot from 12 yards out. Heidie Munoz controlled the throw-in and occupied three defenders before dropping a pass off to Blue. She took one touch to her right and then took her shot. The ball looped over the arms of the diving keeper and found the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.

Chico State tried to find the equalizer, but Humboldt's defense was smothering, especially within 20 yards of the goal. Makayla Cruz-Martinez had the best look with nine minutes remaining, but her shot went just over the crossbar.

Ariana Beddoes made two saves in the first half for Humboldt before Carson Thomson-Terrel took over in the second half and made another. Their counterpart, Kennedy Briseno, had six saves for Chico State.

Humboldt's victory marks the first time a No. 5 seed has ever won the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. It will also receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time. The Lumberjacks entered the tournament with only one CCAA Tournament win in program history (2023).

The NCAA Selection Show will be on Monday, Nov. 17, at 3:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
