SEASIDE, Calif. - Freshman Makayla Cruz-Martinez came through big in her first collegiate playoff match, scoring the equalizer late and the game-winner in the second overtime to propel the No. 2 seed Chico State to a 2-1 win over the No. 3 seed Stanislaus State in the semifinals of the 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

Chico State went down a goal five minutes into the second half when Stan State's Aliah Avila converted on a penalty kick. The Wildcats would not find the tying goal until the 82nd minute when Cruz-Martinez followed a free kick all the way to the goal and was able to poke the ball in after it slipped out of the keeper's hands.

The match remained tied through the rest of regulation and the first overtime. It appeared the teams might be headed to penalty kicks before Chico State made its game-winning run. After the Wildcats collected the ball at midfield, Baylee Gregerson passed to Olivia Hohnstein on the right side. She sent a through-ball to Cruz-Martinez, who beat her defender and the on-rushing keeper to register the game-winner.

It capped off a day in which the Wildcats outshot Stanislaus State 20-8, including 13-5 in the second half and overtime.

Kennedy Briseno had one save for Chico State, and Zara Mujica made two for Stanislaus State.

Chico State will advance to the finals of the 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. The Wildcats will play the winner of Cal Poly Humboldt and Cal Poly Pomona.
