Mariah Ramirez gave up just one run in a complete-game effort to lead No. 6 Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 7-1 win in the opening game of the 2024 NCAA Softball West Regional.
The Toros scored runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead on the PacWest regular-season champions, Concordia. After the Eagles got one back in the bottom of the sixth, the Toros immediately answered with three runs in the top of the seventh on RBI hits by
Kaylee Hull and
Alani Nguyen to extend the lead to 7-1. Ramirez then set the Eagles down in order in the seventh to register her 23rd win of the season (23-7).
Cal State Dominguez Hills outhit Concordia 9-5 and drew four more walks (4-0). Only
Kaia Nisby had more than two hits for the Eagles.
Mireya Rico joined Ross as the only Toros to record multi-hit games, but six of CSUDH's starters had at least one hit.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will advance in the winner's bracket and face the No. 2 seed and tournament host Northwest Nazarene on Friday, May 10 at 11 a.m. Concordia will face Saint Martin's in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. that same day.
