SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Ashlee Toy pitched six shutout innings in relief, and Cal State East Bay scored four runs in the fifth to defeat Cal State San Marcos 4-2 and force the If Necessary Game to determine the 2024 CCAA Softball Tournament Champions.

Cal State San Marcos took a 2-0 lead off Marissa Quintero in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Jillian Albayati, but she did not come out the next inning. Instead, coach Claire Sua-Amundson turned to her left-hander.

Toy went the rest of the way without allowing a run to give her team the chance at a comeback. She finished the game without allowing a run and only four hits over six innings. She walked three and struck out two.

The Pioneers scored all their runs in one inning for the second consecutive game. With two out, Annelise Garcia beat out a close play at first base to put runners on the corners. Ashlee Toy's chopper to the left side resulted in an error to bring in the first run and keep the inning alive. Cynthia Carrillo then delivered the go-ahead three-run homer to turn the one-run deficit into a two-run lead (4-2).

CSUSM put runners on base each of the next three innings but could not solve Toy as it dropped its first tournament game.

The teams will turn right around and play a winner-take-all game for the CCAA Championship. Follow the action at CCAAnetwork.com
