NAMPA, Idaho - For the second time in three seasons, Cal State Dominguez Hills wins an NCAA Softball West Region pod. The Toros went to Nampa and did not lose a game. They completed that portion of their journey with a 3-1 win over host Northwest Nazarene.
Mariah Ramirez powered the Toros by going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and two RBI while throwing a complete game.
The 2024 CCAA Newcomer of the Year put the Toros on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the first and her team tacked on one more on a single by
Mireya Rico. NNU answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the first.
From there, no one would score until Ramirez doubled in
Jay Ross in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-1. NNU threatened with a pair of his in the fifth but Ramirez shut down the scoring opportunity as CSUDH closed out the regional.
Ramirez allowed seven hits and one unearned run over seven innings. She walked one and struck out eight to improve to 25-7 this season. She is also the conference's home run leader with 20.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will advance to the West Super Regional at Western Washington. The Toros and Vikings will meet in a three-game series starting May 14 to see who will represent the West at the NCAA Championships. The Toros won the super regional in 2022 and reached the NCAA title game.
