SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Mariah Ramirez celebrated winning the CCAA Newcomer of the Year award by hitting two home runs, driving in four runs, and pitching a complete game to lead No. 3 seeded Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 6-1 win over No. 6 seed San Francisco State in an opening-round, elimination game of the 2024 CCAA Softball Tournament.

Ramirez set the tone early for the Toros. After she set the Gators down in order in the top of the first, Ramirez came to bat with Jay Ross on and not out in the first. She lifted the third pitch she saw high and over the center field wall as she pumped her fist coming around second base.

She hit another two-run long ball, her CCAA-leading 19th of the season, in the fourth to extend the Toros' lead to 5-0.

Meanwhile, while in the circle, Ramirez did not allow a Gator past first base until the sixth inning. She went all seven innings, allowing three hits and one run. She struck out four and walked two. In addition to leading the CCAA in home runs, Ramirez (21-6) also has the most wins (21).

Kaylee Hull added two more hits for CSUDH as she and Ramirez were the only student-athletes on either team to record a multi-hit game.

Cal State Dominguez Hills will advance to the double-elimination portion of the CCAA Softball Tournament beginning Wednesday, May 2. The Toros will face No. 2 seed Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, May 2, at 1 p.m.
