This 2024 Cal State East Bay softball team made history today by becoming the first Pioneers' squad to earn a CCAA Tournament win. CCAA Freshman of the Year
Marissa Quintero made three early runs hold up as she pitched a complete game and lifted the No. 5 seed Cal State East Bay to a 3-2 win over No. 4 seed Cal State San Bernardino.
CSUEB scored one in the first on a two-out, RBI single by
Jeslyn Cuellar and added two more in the top of the third on a two-run single by
Adriana Martinez to take a 3-0 lead.
CSUSB's bats were quiet through the first five innings as Qunitero limited them to only five hits.
Then everything started to bounce right for CSUSB in the sixth inning. After
Shannon Galliano doubled to lead off the inning, the next three batters all had singles. Galliano scored to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the bases were still loaded with no outs.
Quintero then induced an infield fly, a grounder to shortstop, which brought in the second run, and a line out to shortstop to get out of the inning, still holding the lead. She then set the Coyotes down in order in the seventh to earn her 16th win of the season.
Cal State East Bay will now advance to the double-elimination portion of the CCAA Softball Tournament. CSUEB will face the No. 1 seed, Sonoma State, on Thursday, May 2, at 1 p.m. You can Follow the game at
