Cal State San Marcos' Madison Murr leads the list of 2024 CCAA Women's Golf Awards

Apr 29, 2024

[2023-24 All-CCAA Women's Golf Team]

The CCAA women's golf coaches have unanimously selected Cal State San Marcos' Madison Murr as the 2023-24 CCAA Women's Golf Player of the Year, and her coach, Greg Hutton, was voted the CCAA Coach of the Year.

The other two individual honors went to Sonoma State's Avery Foster, named the Newcomer of the Year, and Cal State LA's Daniela Andrade, who earned Freshman of the Year.

Madison Murr was a dominant force at the top of the lineup all season for the Cougars. The junior from Los Alamitos averaged four fewer strokes (71.2) than anyone in the conference. She had four tournament wins, and only twice in nine tournaments did she finish outside the top 3. Murr opened the year by winning the Sonoma State Fall Invite before winning two of her other three tournaments in the Fall and helping lead CSUSM to a top 10 national ranking. Her award marks the sixth straight season a student-athlete from Cal State San Marcos has earned CCAA Player of the Year. Jaime Jacob won the first three seasons (2018-20) and Breann Horn the last two.

Daniela Andrade was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Golden Eagle to claim a women's golf postseason honor in the program's sixth season. Andrade averaged 75.9 strokes per round and earned three top-10 finishes. The San Jose native quickly jumped on the radar by winning the season's opening event, the RJGA Shootout at Estrella, with a second-round comeback that saw her shoot 3-under par to climb the leaderboard. Her efforts have helped Cal State LA stand at No. 6 in the NCAA Regional rankings.

From the time she joined the team, Sonoma State Avery Foster was counted on to help be a leader for the Seawolves. The Fresno State transfer placed second in her first tournament with the Seawolves and went on to average 75.4 strokes during her sophomore season. Foster played in all nine tournaments and helped Sonoma State finish in the top 3 seven times. Foster joins Samantha Cabunag (2020) as the only Seawolves to earn the honors of CCAA Women's Golf Newcomer of the Year.

Cal State San Marcos' Greg Hutton is still the only coach in the conference's history to earn CCAA Women's Golf Coach of the Year honors. Hutton extended his run to six straight seasons as his peers voted him for this honor. The 10th-year head coach led the Cougars to six tournament wins, including capturing the CCAA Championship by 27 strokes and having the Cougars finish in the top 3 spots on the leaderboard.

Hutton also guided Cal State San Marcos to a conference-best four All-CCAA honors. The Cougars earned four of the 10 all-conference honors as Regan Barton, Makenna Cabardo, and Diana Delgado joined Murr on the first team. This was the third consecutive season in which Murr and Cabardo earned All-CCAA honors.

Cal State LA's Morgan Sjoerdsma collected All-CCAA honors for the fourth time in her career. She earned honorable mention honors in 2019-20 and has been voted first team each of the past three seasons. Andrade and Foster also collected first team all-conference along with their special honors.

The final three All-CCAA first team spots went to Cal State Monterey Bay's Wa Yeung Cathy Tong and Zoe Offield and Cal State East Bay's Julika Grosspietsch. Offield and Tong were each repeat first-team selections.

The NCAA Super Region teams will be announced today at Noon on NCAA.com. The CCAA had five teams listed in the top 12 in the latest West Region poll, with Cal State San Marcos leading the way at No. 4. Click here to see the complete regional rankings
