Jeanette Fine scored 16 points to lead four Broncos in double-figures as the No. 3 seed Cal Poly Pomona rolled to a 74-45 win over No. 6 seed Sonoma State in the quarterfinals of the 2024 CCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. (Mar. 7)
Fine went 6-of-7 from the floor and connected on her only 3-pointer to post those 16 points in only 17 minutes.
Breanne Ha had 15 points with four 3-pointers.
Reina Sausedo added 11 and
Sydney Nelson chipped in with 10. Sauseda and Nelson led CPP with eight boards apiece.
Kalaya Buggs had five steals and Nelson had four.
Alli McDonald scored a game-high 17 points for Sonoma State while grabbing six rebounds and collecting three steals. Emerson Hermann led the Seawolves with 10 rebounds.
After a competitive first quarter that ended with the Broncos leading 14-11, Cal Poly Pomona's defense turned up its intensity. CPP allowed only eight points over the next 13 minutes to extend its lead from three to 25 (44-19). The Seawolves did not score from the 4:59 mark in the second quarter till the 6:58 mark in the third quarter and the deficit did not drop below 22 the rest of the game.
Cal Poly Pomona will advance to play the No. 2 seed, Chico State, on Friday at Noon.
