2024 All-CCAA Volleyball Team Announced; CPP's Samantha Campion named Player of the Year

Nov 19, 2024

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced its all-conference team and individual award winners for the 2024 volleyball season on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The conference coaches voted Cal Poly Pomona's Samantha Campion as the 2024 CCAA Player of the Year. Her coach, Traci Dahl, was named the Coach of the Year, and her teammate, Charlotte Koerber, was selected as the CCAA Newcomer of the Year.

CCAA Setter of the Year honors went to San Francisco State's Kimberly DeBoer for the third consecutive season. She is only the third student-athlete to collect a CCAA individual honor in three years in a row.

Stanislaus State was also well-respected among the special award winners, earning a pair of accolades. Gabby Rawson was named the CCAA Libero of the Year and Malia Tanksley the CCAA Freshman of the Year.

Samantha Campion was selected as the CCAA Player of the Year after leading Cal Poly Pomona to its first outright regular season championship in program history. The senior outside hitter did a little of everything for the Broncos, as she showed up in the top 10 of nearly every CCAA stat category. She was 10th in kills (3.22), fourth in digs (3.65), third in aces (0.51), and eighth in points (4.09). Campion posted 13 double-doubles and was a two-time FloCollege/CCAA Defensive Player of the Week. Campion is the third Bronco to be named CCAA Player of the Year, joining Daisy Duke (2022) and Mitsue Tomoyasu (1992).

Kimberly DeBoer led the CCAA in assists for the third consecutive season, each of which she has been named the CCAA Setter of the Year. DeBoer paced the conference and ranked eighth in NCAA Division II with a career-high 11.56 assists per set. She had the CCAA's three highest assist matches of the season with performances of 55, 57, and 58 assists. DeBoer's efforts helped SF State lead the CCAA in hitting percentage (.272) and kills per set (14.32).

Gabby Rawson capped off her career by being voted the CCAA Libero of the Year for the second time (2022). The senior from Rancho Cucamonga led the conference in digs at 4.43 per set. That was almost a half-dig more than second place. Rawson posted four matches with 20 or more digs, including a CCAA season-best 33 digs against Cal State San Marcos. She was also very active in the offense for the Warriors, with 1.54 assists per set and 0.34 service aces. Her efforts helped Stan State rank second in the CCAA in opponent hitting percentage (.154) and digs (15.66).

Charlotte Koerber was an essential piece in the Broncos capturing the 2024 CCAA Championship. She averaged 2.66 kills and 2.29 digs per set and ranked 10th in the CCAA with a .257 hitting percentage to earn CCAA Newcomer of the Year honors. She finished her season strong with double-figure kills in seven of her last 10 matches. In the season finale match against SF State, which sealed the outright championship for CPP, Koerber posted 17 kills and 10 digs for her second double-double of her sophomore campaign.

CCAA Freshman of the Year honors went to Stanislaus State's Malia Tanksley. The opposite side hitter from Sloughouse, Calif., averaged 2.1 kills, 0.81 blocks and 2.51 points per set during her first season in Turlock. Tanksley posted four matches with double-digit kills, and she hit over .300 in 12 games. She also had a block in 20 of 26 matches, including a season-high seven against Jessup. Tanksley is the first Warrior in program history named CCAA Freshman of the Year.

After leading the Broncos to a historic season, Traci Dahl claimed CCAA Coach of the Year honors. Cal Poly Pomona suffered only one loss in its first 22 matches as it climbed to No. 3 in the AVCA national rankings and started the CCAA conference schedule with 16 consecutive victories. CPP would capture the program's first CCAA regular season championship since 1990 and the first outright championship in program history with a 17-1 record. The Broncos ranked in the top two in the CCAA in nearly every category, including points (18.54), kills (14.09), hitting percentage (.271), and opponent hitting percentage (.145).

Dahl also guided Cal Poly Pomona to a league-best three first team All-CCAA selections, with five Broncos making the first or second team. Caitie Mueller (S) and Sarah Ybarra (OH) joined Campion on the first team. Avery Percival (L) and Charlotte Koerber (OH) collected second team honors.

San Francisco State matched CPP with three first team selections. DeBoer was joined on the first team by Tamiya Wilson (OPP) and Izzy Issak (OH). Anastacia Garza was a second team selection.

Others joining the Gators, Broncos, and Rawson as  All-CCAA first-team selections included Cal State LA's Emily Elliott (OPP), who broke the CCAA career kills record earlier in the season. Cal State East Bay's Lexi Pagani and Cal State San Bernardino's Ashley Robinson also repeated as All-CCAA first team selections.

The all-conference awards are announced on the brink of the CCAA Volleyball Tournament. The tournament will start on Thursday, Nov. 21, with a pair of games. The top two seeds will begin play on Friday, with the championship match on Saturday at 5 p.m. Follow along with the competition at GoCCAA.org/FloCollege.
