ARCATA, Calif. - No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona scored five second-half goals to overcome a halftime deficit and advance to the championship match of the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament presented by FloCollege with a 5-1 win over No. 4 seed Stanislaus State.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Broncos struck quickly and often in the second half. They found the equalizer six minutes after intermission on a goal by the 2024 CCAA Player of the Year, Vanessa Cruz.

Nine minutes later, CPP took the lead when Angelina Rivas scored the first of her two goals. After receiving a pass from Marisa Salazar, Rivas created space just outside the 18-yard box before firing a shot. Her shot was perfectly placed into the top right corner of the net to give CPP its first lead of the day (2-1).

Tara Oper added a goal three minutes later from an assist by Cruz to extend the lead to 3-1. Rivas tacked on her second goal in the 75th minute before Kiarra D'Arcangelo closed out the scoring in the 77th minute off an assist by Lavinia Vaipulu.

While the offense will receive most of the attention after a five-goal performance, the Broncos' defense also had a strong performance. It held Stan State to only five shots and one corner kick. Meanwhile, CPP had 25 shots and 14 corners.

CPP's Bella Hara had two saves and her replacement, Kat Aguayo, had one. Tylin Norman made eight saves for the Warriors.

Cal Poly Pomona will advance to the championship match of the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament presented by FloCollege. The Broncos will face the No. 2 seed Cal State East Bay for the championship at 11 a.m. Both teams are looking for their program's second CCAA Tournament Championship.
