For the 22nd consecutive season, Chico State hoisted the CCAA Men's Cross Country Championship trophy.

The first four runners across the line on the 8k course at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif., were all Wildcats as Chico State matched its best score at the championships since 2013 with 18 points. Mario Giannini led the way, finishing in a time of 24:06.1 to earn 2024 CCAA Runner of the Year honors.

Brayden McLaughlin, Matthew Gordon, and Hunter Dougherty followed in the next three places before Cal State San Marcos' Sankalp Shastri finished fifth and ended Chico's bid for a perfect score (15). Damian Garcia was just four seconds back of Shastri, finishing eighth with a time of 24:30.1 to close the scoring for the nation's No. 7 ranked team. Daniel Hernandez was the first alternate scorer to cross the finish line, placing ninth at 24:32.5. Five Cal Poly Pomona runners placed in the top 16 to lead the Broncos to their four consecutive second-place finish. Leandro Candray finished in sixth place for the third consecutive season. Juan Ramos was right behind him at 24:28.7. Both earned All-CCAA honors, along with Thomas McDonnell (12th) and Evan Franco (14th). Ethan Romero's 16th-place finish locked the Broncos' score in with 55 points.

Stanislaus State placed third with 76 points as Tanner Gerhart won CCAA Newcomer of the Year and Jackson Oliveira captured CCAA Freshman of the Year honors. It was the first time in program history the Warriors have finished in the top 3 for consecutive seasons. Mason Oliveira also earned All-CCAA honors placing 15th (top 15 finishers earn All-CCAA honors). The Warriors completed their scoring when Dominic Robles finished 18th and Abe Alsaidi 20th.
All but three spots in the final top 20 went to Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona, and Stanislaus State, as it was another hard-fought CCAA Championship.

Cal State San Marcos had two runners among the top 20. Shastri placed fifth, and Alan Jimenez placed 17th with a time of 24:47.9. They finished in fourth with 99 points as Ataklty Gebru (23rd), Braden Oberg (25th) and Jacob Brown (34th) rounded out their score.

The following three places in the final standings went to Cal Poly Humboldt (133), Cal State East Bay (158), and Cal State Monterey Bay (216).  Cal State East Bay's Cole McKain earned All-CCAA honors for the fourth consecutive season, placing 11th with a time of 24:35.7. He and Brayden McLaughlin (Chico) are the only two student-athletes to accomplish this feat since returning from the pandemic in 2021. Carson Smith was the top runner for the Lumberjacks, finishing 22nd with a time of 25:01.5. Alex Fernandez's (38th) time of 25:46.5 was the top mark for CSUMB.

Cal State LA finished one spot ahead of their placement in the CCAA preseason coaches poll, taking eighth place with 238 points. San Francisco State completed the field with 242 points.

The teams will now turn their attention to the upcoming NCAA West Regional, which will be held on Nov. 9 in Billings, Mont.
