ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - A familiar name is back at the top of the CCAA Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll. Chico State received all 10 first-place votes and a perfect 100 points as the conference coaches tabbed the Wildcats to win their 23rd consecutive CCAA Championship.

Cal Poly Pomona came in second in the voting with 88 points, and Stanislaus State placed third with 80 points. Fourth place went to Cal State San Marcos (72 points).

Chico State has hoisted the CCAA Men's Cross Country Championship trophy every season since 2002, and the coaches aren't expecting that streak to end in 2025. The Wildcats won their eighth consecutive regional championship last year and took sixth place at the NCAA Championships. All-American and the 2024 CCAA Runner of the Year, Mario Giannini returns to lead a trio of decorated juniors and a team full of freshmen and sophomores. Only one student-athlete has repeated as CCAA Runner of the Year since 2001. (Will Reyes, Chico State, 2015 & 2016)

Cal Poly Pomona placed second at the CCAA Championships for the fourth consecutive year. The Broncos would go on to place fourth at the NCAA Regional and earn a bid to the NCAA Championships. They have placed in the top 5 at regionals in 11 of the last 12 years and have earned a bid to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in the past six seasons. CPP will bring back All-CCAA selections Juan Ramos and Thomas McDonnell.

Stanislaus State matches Chico State with three returning all-conference selections. Last season, the Warriors placed third at the CCAA Championships and sixth at the NCAA West Regional, for their best finish since 2019. Stan State returns a talented group of runners, including 2024 CCAA Freshman of the Year Jackson Oliveira, along with fellow All-CCAA honorees Mason Oliveira and Tanner Gerhart.

Only once since their first year in the conference in 2016 has Cal State San Marcos finished outside the top at the CCAA Championships. The coaches are not expecting it to happen this year as the Cougars earned 72 points to place fourth in the preseason poll. All-CCAA Sankalp Shastri is back to lead CSUSM in his senior season.

Cal Poly Humboldt placed fifth in the poll with 53 points. The Lumberjacks have been in the top 5 at the CCAA Championships in each of the past three seasons. This year, they will bring back four student-athletes who gained experience in the CCAA Championships.

Cal State East Bay was sixth at the 2024 CCAA Championships and placed sixth in the CCAA Coaches Preseason Poll. Matthew Morgan returns along with seven more letterwinners for CSUEB.

Cal State Monterey Bay (41), UC Merced (24), San Francisco State (22), and Cal State LA (15) round out the 2025 CCAA Men's Cross Country Coaches Preseason Poll.

The 2025 Men's Cross Country season begins the weekend of Sept. 5-6. The CCAA Championships will be held Oct. 24 at Bidwell Park in Chico, Calif. For more information on the 2025 CCAA Championships, click here.
