Chico places 6th at NCAA National Championships; CPP finishes 21st

SACRAMENTO – Wet and muddy conditions could not keep Chico State from earning its ninth consecutive top-10 finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Wildcats placed sixth, and Cal Poly Pomona finished 21st.
 
CCAA Champion Mario Giannini led Chico State with a 28th-place finish. He recorded a time of 30:15.4 on the 10k course to earn All-American honors. It is the 22nd consecutive season the Wildcats have placed at least a student-athlete on the awards podium.
 
The subsequent four runners for Chico finished between 42nd and 56th place as the team finished with 192 points. Matthew Gordon finished 42nd at 30:32.1 to earn 36 team points. Daniel Hernandez (30:37.9) was next in 47th place and Dylan White (30:46.4) placed 52nd. Brayden McLaughlin rounded out the top 5 runners for Chico with his 56th-place finish (30:51.8).
 
All five scoring runners for Cal Poly Pomona finished within a minute of each other. Leandro Candray's 88th-place finish (31:14.5) led the team, followed by Thomas McDonnell (31:25.0) in 106th place. Evan Franco (118, 31:29.5), Juan Ramos (151st, 31:52.3) and Ethan Romero (174th, 32:11.9) rounded out the list.
 
Colorado School of Mines won the 2024 NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship. The Orediggers finished with 63 points to edge out second-place Wingate (66 points). Mines placed three runners in the top 10 and all five in the top 25. Click here to see the complete results.
