Cal State Dominguez Hills scored three in the seventh to take the lead and three more in the ninth to complete the 8-5 win and force the 'if necessary game' with Chico State in the 2023 CCAA Softball Tournament.

The Toros did not hold a lead all game as it entered the seventh inning down 4-2. A leadoff walk and a single put two runners on with one out. Another walk to Jay Ross loaded the bases and brought Kianna Abellera to the plate. She chopped the ball to second, and it looked like the second baseman was going to tag the runner before going to first, but the runner avoided the tag, and the Wildcats got only one run on the play (4-3).

It would prove costly as two batters later, Kaylee Hull doubled to score two runs and give the Toros their first lead (5-4). Brianna Swihart came up with a clutch hit in the seventh inning for the second consecutive day as she singled to bring in Hannah Levy with the game-tying run.

After a quick eighth inning, the Toros would send eight batters to the plate in the ninth, scoring three runs. Alex Davis led off the inning with a home run before Raquel Jaime and Hull each had run-scoring singles to extend the lead to 8-5. Chico put its leadoff hitter on in the ninth but was unable to score.

Alyssa Olague and Ashley Wies split the pitching duties for the Toros. Olague started and came back into the game to finish it in extra innings. In total, she went 4.2 innings allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) to improve to 15-7 on the season. Mari Takeda Bajan was charged with the loss.

The bases-clearing double was not the only big hit for the Hull. The 2023 Softball Elite 13 Winner got the Toros on the board with a mammoth home run over the scoreboard in the second inning and also had the final run-scoring hit. She finished 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, and four RBI. Davis added a pair of hits, including the home run, and she crossed the plate twice. Levy collected four hits for the Wildcats, who outhit the Toros 15-10.

The 'if necessary game' started 30 minutes after the last pitch.
