The bats are carrying Cal State Dominguez Hills in its first two games of the CCAA Softball Tournament, and today, they put up nine runs to send the Toros into the winners bracket with a 9-3 win over the No. 2 seed Cal State San Bernardino.
Raquel Jaime and
Maiya Lopez homered in the first and second innings, respectively, to give CSUDH the early 3-0 lead.
Alyssa Olague was cruising in the circle, putting up a shutout through five innings. She ran into trouble in the sixth when she surrendered her first run in the sixth inning.
The Toros answered the Yotes' run with six more of their own in the top of the seventh. Jaime and
Alani Nguyen each provided two-run scoring hits in the inning as Dominguez Hills went up 9-1.
Jaime finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Nguyen posted a game-high three hits, including her fourth double of the season. Lopez and
Nayah Pola also posted multi-hit games for the Toros.
Alexis Aguado led CSUSB with two hits and two RBI.
Olague earned the win to move to 14-6 during her senior season. She went six innings, allowing eight hits and three runs. She walked two and struck out seven. The Yotes'
Samantha Vargas (19-11) was saddled with the loss.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will face Chico State at Noon on Friday, May 5, in the first game of the winners bracket. First pitch is scheduled for Noon. CSUSB will play Sonoma State this afternoon in an elimination game.
