Cal State San Marcos sweeps through softball West 2 Regional

The Cougars will play a best-of-3 super regional next weekend

Cal State San Marcos completed its dominant weekend at the NCAA West 2 Regional with a 7-1 win over Azusa Pacific. (May 13)
 
Jayline Sloss and Savannah Coyle combined to allow three hits and just one unearned run. Sloss went the first five, giving up two hits and an unearned run. She struck out five and did not walk a batter. Coyle closed out the win with two strikeouts over two innings.
 
Cal State San Marcos pitched with the lead nearly the entire game after plating two in the second on RBI groundouts. APU put its lone run on the board in the bottom of the second as the leadoff hitter reached on an error and came around to score. Sloss shook it off and sat the next eight hitters down in order.
 
A passed ball gave CSUSM another run in the third, extending the lead to 6-1 with a three-run sixth. Bianca Gutierrez singled in the first run before Mackenzie Kestler tripled to score two more.
 
Cal State San Marcos will advance to the Super Regional, where it will play Concordia in a best-of-three series. The games will be next weekend in Irvine.
