[CSLA-Chico Box Score] [STAN-HUM Box Score]

Cal State LA and Cal Poly Humboldt are advancing to the semifinals of the CCAA Men's Soccer Championships after picking up victories in the first round on Sunday (Nov. 5).

#3 Cal State LA 1, #6 Chico State 0
Liliana Gonzalez scored the lone goal of the match in the 21st minute and the Golden Eagles' defense made it stand up for a 1-0 win over Chico State in the No. 3/6 match of the CCAA Tournament.

Gonzalez took a long pass from Thaiz Hernandez and held off two defenders before depositing it into the net for her fourth goal.

That would be all keeper Taesja Paopao, and the defense would need en route to their CCAA-leading 11th shutout. Since Oct. 1, the team has had eight shutouts and allowed only three goals.

#5 Cal Poly Humboldt 2, #4 Stanislaus State 1 (2OT)
Three minutes into the second overtime period, Frida Duran Arellano's goal lifted No. 5 seed Cal Poly Humboldt to a 2-1 win over #4 Stanislaus State and the program's first CCAA playoff win.

The match was scoreless until the 78th minute when Stanislaus' Aliah Avila broke through with a goal on an assist by Marivic Lek-Miro. However, the lead would be shortlived, as Cal Poly Pomona drew a penalty kick, and Erin Mohr tied the score at 1-1 in the 81st minute.

The first overtime saw Stan State create multiple opportunities and outshoot Humboldt 5-0, but they were unable to get the go-ahead score.

It was Duran Arellano's seventh goal of the season (sixth CCAA), and it moved her into a tie for the top spot in the conference with four game-winning goals.

Stanislaus State's Malia Allen had a 2023 CCAA season-best 14 saves in the loss. Her counterpart, Carson Thomson-Terrel, had seven.
