A familiar name is at the top of the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Coaches Poll. Cal State San Bernardino appeared on the top of 11 of the 12 ballots and collected 143 points to earn the nod as the 2022 CCAA preseason favorites.
Cal State San Bernardino is the five-time defending CCAA Tournament Championships and six-time defending CCAA regular-season champions. The Yotes ride a 40-match CCAA regular-season undefeated streak into the season, having not dropped a conference contest since Oct. 2018. CSUSB has three student-athletes on the CCAA preseason watchlist, the most in the conference, including 2021 Libero of the Year Makena Overbey. Nine letterwinners will return for the Yotes, including first team All-CCAA setter Marlee Nunley and second team All-CCAA outside hitter Asia Clarke.

Cal State LA collected the remaining first-place vote and finished second in the polls, one point ahead of Cal Poly Pomona, with 124 points.
Cal State LA reached the NCAA West Regional championship match last season after sweeping Cal State San Bernardino in the regional semifinals. The Golden Eagles posted a 20-10 record on the season and a 13-5 mark in conference play while leading the league in digs, assists, and total kills. They will bring back 2021 CCAA Freshman of the Year, Emily Elliott, second team All-CCAA setter Eliza Cannon, and eight more letterwinners.
Cal Poly Pomona went from eight wins in 2019 to 23 in 2021 with appearances in the CCAA Tournament Championship and the NCAA West Regional. The Broncos posted a 23-5 record last season thanks to an 11-match winning streak to start the season and an 8-match winning streak to close out the regular season. First-team All-CCAA selection Daisy Duke will be back in the middle for the Broncos, who led the CCAA last season as a team with a .280 hitting percentage.
It was also a very tight battle for fourth place in the polls, as two points separated the three teams. Cal State San Marcos claimed the fourth spot in the poll with 97 points, followed closely by San Francisco State with 96 points. Sonoma State earned the sixth spot with 95 points.
Cal State San Marcos is coming off a season in which it went 9-9 in the CCAA (12-13 overall) and earned the No. 6 seed in the CCAA Tournament. Eight letterwinners will return for the Cougars, and they also add 2021 first team All-CCAA selection Trinity Barr as a transfer from San Francisco State. The Cougars will be going for their fifth consecutive appearance in the CCAA Tournament.
San Francisco State is coming off a season in which it earned the program's first-ever win in the CCAA Tournament. The Gators went 22-5 season, including a perfect 16-0 record at home. They opened the season with eight straight wins and carried that momentum through the season to earn the No. 3 seed in the CCAA Tournament. San Francisco State will return nine student-athletes to a team that led the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.174) and was second in total aces (200).
Sonoma State returns a pair of student-athletes on the 2022 CCAA Watchlist to a team that went 13-13 last season and won four of its final five CCAA regular-season games to earn its fifth trip to the CCAA Tournament in the past six years. The Seawolves will bring back 11 letterwinners from last season, including second team All-CCAA selections Jen Trephan (S) and Kiana Richardson (OH).
Cal State Monterey Bay (62) and Stanislaus State (54) occupy the seventh and eighth spots on the list.
Cal State Monterey Bay went 13-9 in 2021 but ended with a 6-11 record in conference play after taking some forfeit losses due to COVID protocols. Last year, the Otters were fourth in the CCAA and 41st in the country with a .232 hitting percentage.
Stanislaus State will bring back 12 letterwinners in 2022. The Warriors posted a 12-14 record last season and missed the CCAA Tournament for just the second time since it was created in 2015. Second team All-CCAA selection Macky Morris will be back again at middle blocker for the Warriors.
Ninth place was also highly contested, with three teams also finishing within two points.
Cal State East Bay (43) edged out
Chico State (42) and
Cal State Dominguez Hills (41) to place ninth.
Cal Poly Humboldt rounded out the poll with 16 points.

The 2022 season will begin on Aug. 25. Five CCAA teams will take the court on opening day, with all 12 playing over the opening weekend. Sonoma State will start the season for the CCAA with a 2:30 p.m. match against MSU Denver. The defending CCAA champions, Cal State San Bernardino, will open its season on Friday, Aug. 26, against Chaminade in Honolulu.
