It had never happened in any of these student-athletes' lifetimes, but thanks to quality performances up and down the squad, the Cal Poly Pomona men's track & field team can call themselves CCAA Champions for the first time since 1998.

The Broncos posted 277 team points to snap Chico State's run of four consecutive CCAA Championships. The 277 are the second-highest total in CCAA Track & Field Championship history, dating back to 1999. Only Chico State's mark of 290 points in 2010 bests the Broncos' efforts from this year.

Cal Poly Pomona's Aaron May led the Broncos and the entire field with 29 points. He placed in four throwing events, including winning the discus with a distance of 160-10 (49.02m) en route to claiming the High Point Award for the 2022 CCAA Track & Field Championships.

His teammate, Joshua Johnson, was named the Track Athlete of the Meet after winning the 100m and the 200m with NCAA Provisional Qualifying Times and helping the Broncos place second in both relay events. He now sits atop the CCAA performance lists with a time of 10.43 in the 100m and a mark of 21.12 in the 200m.

Bryce Bushnell was named the CCAA Freshman of the Meet for his performance in the sprints and helping Cal Poly Pomona win the title. Bushnell placed third in the 100m (10.57) and fourth in the 200m (21.72). He was also part of both relay teams and Johnson, which earned NCAA Provisional Standards.

Newcomer of the Year honors went to Cal State LA's Leon Tafirenyika. The freshman took first in the 400m with a time of 47.80. He also helped Cal State LA capture both relay titles with NCAA provisional standards. The Golden Eagles' 4x100m team edged CPP's squad with a time of 40.69. Cal State's LA's 4x400m team of Clifton Johnson, Shingirai Hlanguyo, Leon Tafirenyika, and Jesus Nichols II posted the 11th-best mark in NCAA Division II this season. The Golden Eagles closed out the CCAA Track & Field Championships with a time of 3:11.08.

Cal Poly Pomona's Chris Bradford was named the CCAA Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year. He helped the Broncos post the second-most points in championship history (277) and snap the winning streak of Chico State, which had the highest point total scored by a runner-up at the conference championships. Bronco student-athletes took all but one of the individual awards, and 29 Broncos earned All-CCAA awards for finishing in the top 3 of individual events or relays.

Travis Allen was the recipient of the conference's Elite 13 Award. The senior Psychology major had the highest cumulative GPA among all competitors that reached the CCAA Championships. Allen also took third in the decathlon and helped the Humboldt 4x400m relay team place fifth.

Chico State paced the championships with eight event winners. The Wildcats were dominant in the distance and mid-distance races. Conor Wells joined CPP's Joshua Johnson as the only student-athletes to win two individual events in the championships. Wells took first in the 800m with a time of 1:53.18 and he won the 1500m with a time of 3:57.71.k here to see the complete results from the 2022 CCAA Championships
