Cal State Monterey Bay is advancing in the elimination bracket of the 2022 CCAA Softball Championships after earning a 6-2 win over Cal State East Bay.
 
The bottom six hitters in the Otters' lineup all posted an RBI as they scored in four of their six innings. Ally Alcayaga was the only Cal State Monterey Bay student-athlete to record a multi-hit game. She went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Madeline Ramirez collected a pair of hits to lead the Pioneers.
 
Cal State East Bay scored the game's opening run before Cal State Monterey Bay answered by scoring in the second, third, and fourth innings to build a 5-2 lead.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Otters turned to Cassie Gaspar in relief to take them the rest of the way. She held the Pioneers hitless over the final four innings, facing just two batters over the minimum. She struck out three and walked one.
 
Cal State Monterey Bay will advance in the elimination bracket to face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m. This will be the sixth meeting between the teams in the last two weeks.
