Rogers State scored six unanswered runs, and Callie Yellin capped off the comeback with a walk-off home run to hand Cal State Dominguez Hills a 6-5 loss in the first game of the NCAA Softball Championship series.
Kaylee Hull led the Toros to an early 5-0 lead with a solo home run in the third, and she capped off a four-run fourth inning with a two-run double.
Rogers State rallied with a pair of two-run homers in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Toros' lead to 5-4. In the next inning, the Hillcats tied the game with a two-out run-scoring single by Mikayla Bowman.
In the seventh, Yellin stepped into the box with one out and drove the ball the opposite way over the high right-center field fence for the game-winning run.
Rogers State outhit Dominguez Hills 10-7, marking just the second time at the championships that the Toros have been outhit. Hull finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and three RBI. Raquel Jaime added a pair of hits and has now posted a multi-hit game in all six games at the national championships. She is hitting .696 (14-for-23) during the Toros' run in Denver.
On Tuesday, a national champion will be crowned when Cal State Dominguez Hills and Rogers State close out the national championship series. They will play game 2 of the series at 10 a.m. PST and a possible 'if necessary' game after.
