East Bay will host the 2022 Women's Basketball Regional; Cal State San Marcos earns #4 seed

The seasons for Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Marcos will continue as both were selected to participate in the 2022 NCAA West Regional. Cal State East Bay earned the No. 1 seed and the right to host the program's first regional. Cal State San Marcos claimed the No. 4 seed as an at-large selection.
 
Cal State East Bay won the 2022 CCAA Women's Basketball Tournament after finishing second during the regular season. This is the third trip to the regionals for the Pioneers' program and its first since 2017. Since the middle of November, the Pioneers have stumbled just once, and they will carry a 22-2 record into the regional. They have also demonstrated great success against the top teams in the West as they went 5-2 against regionally-ranked opponents. The Pioneers rely heavily on their defense and rebounding, and they lead the CCAA in both categories. They limit opponents to just 56.2 points per game and outrebound them by nearly 10 boards (9.6) per game.
 
Cal State San Marcos was the CCAA regular-season champion, and they made a run to the finals of the conference tournament. The Cougars are now 22-3 on the year after posting an 18-game winning streak to close out the regular season. They are the top-scoring team in the CCAA and 28th in the country with 74.4 ppg. The Cougars shoot .444 percent from the field and .348 percent behind the arc. This will be the program's second consecutive appearance in the West Regional
 
The NCAA West Regional will begin on Friday, March 11, in Hayward, Calif. Cal State East Bay will face the No. 8 seed Academy of Art (18-0) in the first round. Cal State San Marcos will match up with the No. 5 seed Azusa Pacific (24-3).
