2022 All-CCAA Volleyball Teams Announced; Daisy Duke Named Player of the Year

Nov 9, 2022

The conference office announced the CCAA all-conference teams and special award winners on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Cal Poly Pomona's Daisy Duke was voted the Player of the Year and her teammate Caitie Mueller earned Newcomer of the Year. San Francisco State also had a pair of special award winners as Kimberly DeBoer took home Setter of the Year and Tamika Wilson won the Freshman of the Year Award. The Coach of the Year Award went to Cal State LA's Juan Figueroa, and Stanislaus State's Gabby Rawson was named the Libero of the Year.

Daisy Duke earned CCAA Player of the Week honors for four consecutive weeks early in the season and helped carry that momentum into conference play. The junior from Rancho Cucamonga ranked second in the CCAA in hitting percentage (.360) and kills (3.98) and first in points per set (4.59) as an opposite side hitter. Duke posted double-digit kills in 20 of 25 matches and helped lead the Broncos to a top 25 ranking. She collected AVCA Division II National Player of the Week honors after tallying 33 kills, five digs, and five blocks with a hitting percentage of .492 against a pair of CCAA foes.

Caitie Mueller combined with Duke in her first season in the green & gold to give Cal Poly Pomona one of the best connections in the region and earn CCAA Newcomer of the Year honors. Mueller ranked second in the CCAA with 10.42 assists per set, and her efficiency allowed the Broncos to rank 12th in NCAA Division II with a .274 hitting percentage. The San Clemente native posted a season-best 55 assists in just four sets against Cal State Monterey Bay, and she had eight double-doubles on the season.

Gabby Rawson led the CCAA in digs per set with nearly a half dig more than second place (4.93). The 2022 Libero of the Year registered the top two dig performances in the conference, posting 31 against Cal State San Marcos and 32 against Cal State San Bernardino. Rawson's efforts helped the Warriors lead the CCAA in team digs and rank fourth in opponent hitting percentage.

San Francisco State's Tamiya Wilson paced the CCAA and ranked 19th in Division II with 4.03 kills per set en route to being named the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Wilson seized the opportunities given to her in her first year. She led the conference in total attacks (975) and attacks per set (10.6), finishing with the most kills (371) and the second-most points (4.38) in the conference. She was also a two-time CCAA Offensive Player of the Week and had a CCAA regular-season high of 30 kills in a match against nationally-ranked Cal State San Bernardino.

The Gators had another special award winner as Kimberly DeBoer picked up the first CCAA Setter of the Year honor in program history. She led the conference by over a half-assist per set (10.93) and her 60-assist performance against Cal State San Bernardino was the best in the CCAA in two seasons. The sophomore from Murietta was the only CCAA setter to post over 1,000 assists (1,006). DeBoer also hit .338 with 76 kills and 204 digs.

Juan Figueroa earned CCAA Coach of the Year honors for leading Cal State LA to its first CCAA regular-season title since 2005. The Golden Eagles went 21-5 and 16-2 in conference play. After starting the year 2-3, Cal State LA won eight consecutive matches and 14 of their next 15. Seven Golden Eagles were named to one of the three all-conference teams, including Emily Elliott and Iane Henke, who earned first-team honors.

Nine CCAA universities were represented on the All-CCAA first or second teams. There were nine repeat selections among the selections. Cal State San Bernardino led the way with five selections to the All-CCAA first or second teams. Cal State LA and Cal Poly Pomona each had four selections. All six individual awards and the All-CCAA selections were solely voted on by the CCAA's 12 head coaches. All 12 programs are represented at least once on the lists.

The all-conference awards come on the brink of the CCAA Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Thursday, Nov. 10. Cal State San Marcos will serve as the host.
