After four years at Humboldt State, senior Sabine Postma is capping her career in Arcata as the 2020 CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship Scholar.
Pursuing a degree in zoology, the Camas, Wash., native has navigated her collegiate career with a 4.0 grade-point average while playing midfield for the Jacks. Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee co-treasurer in 2019-20, Postma is also a Presidential Scholar for her university.
“What an amazing honor for Sabine as it caps off a stellar athletic and academic career at Humboldt,” remarked Jacks head coach Grant Landy. “Sabine is a tireless worker both on the field and in the classroom. She has set the standard for excellence in all facets of what it means to be a student-athlete. We are proud of all that she has achieved as a Lumberjack.”
A mainstay in the Humboldt State starting lineup, Postma started 46 of her 49 matches played, tallying 11 career assists and five goals - two for game winners. In 2019, she tied for fifth in the CCAA with five helpers on the year.
“Sabine is a role model and leader in the community and on campus,” added Humboldt State director of athletics Jane Teixeira. “We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments this year and throughout her career. Her discipline and dedication to her studies and her sport in these unprecedented times shined through.”
Postma joins Humboldt State men’s soccer player Motoki Sato as the Jacks swept the men’s and women’s soccer Championship Scholar awards for 2020.
The Championship Scholar Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the final CCAA championship site in each conference-sponsored sport. For the 2020-21 academic year, all participating student-athletes in each sport will receive consideration for the award.
This year’s slate of women nominated for this prestigious academic distinction in the sport of women’s soccer included Faith Baumgartner (Cal State LA), Sophia Cortez (Cal State San Bernardino), Sarah Emigh (Chico State), Julia Hagedorn (San Francisco State), Autumn Halvorsen (Stanislaus State), Julia Horner-Bell (Sonoma State), Devyn Kelley (Cal State San Marcos), Allyssa Larkin (Cal Poly Pomona), Jill Nelsen (Cal State East Bay), Kekoa Nelson (Cal State Dominguez Hills), and Jasmine Safarians (Cal State Monterey Bay).
