UC San Diego Men Sweep Weekly Track & Field Awards


After solid performances against NCAA Division I competition, UC San Diego duo Nick Famolaro and Blake Walkowiak are taking home CCAA Track & Field Athlete of the Week for April 1-7, respectively.

Famolaro earned a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a new personal best and provisional qualifying time of 1:51.74 at the Sun Angel Classic. Finishing behind only two runners from Boise State, the senior from San Diego has the top 800 meter mark in the CCAA this season.

Walkowiak, a sophomore from Saugus, also fared well against DI foels, taking first in the discus with a throw of 52.27 meters (171’ 6”) in the meet hosted by Arizona State. Walkowiad finished ahead of competition from BYU, Northern Arizona, Wyoming and Oregon to notch the second-best throw in UC San Diego program history and surpass the provisional-qualifying standard.

Next up, UC San Diego hosts the Triton Invitational in La Jolla on Friday and Saturday.
