Men's Track and Field Mar 5, 2019 Rack, Arroyo Claim Track and Field Athlete of the Week Nicholas Rack continued to shine for UC San Diego while Chico State’s Tyler Arroyo opened the season in victory as the two have been named CCAA Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Feb. 25-March 3. Rack, a senior from Murrieta, picked up his second weekly award of the season, yet again turning in a decisive performance in the 110 meter hurdles. He finished first in the event at the Beach Opener competing against Division I Big West competition crossing the line in 14.31 seconds. Despite rainy conditions on the track, the provisional-qualifying mark stands as third-best all-time in UC San Diego track and field program history. Arroyo opened his 2019 season with a win in the high jump at the Kim Duyst Invitational. The provisional qualifying mark of 2.12 meters is the second-best leap in the nation thus far this season. Arroyo, the defending USTFCCCA West Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, has now won the high jump in seven of his 10 meets as a Wildcat. The senior from San Diego is familiar with the 2.12 meter mark as that was the height he needed to take third in last season’s NCAA Championships. Next, Chico State hosts the Wildcat Invitational this weekend, while the Tritons are also slated to compete on their home track at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge.
