Wayne and Fein Nab CCAA Softball Weekly Acclaim


Chico State catcher Claire Wayne and Cal State Monterey Bay pitcher Hayley Fein have earned CCAA Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 11-17, respectively.

Hailing from Sparks, Nev., Fein earned a pair of victories over No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino over the weekend, extending a string of six consecutive winning decisions for the junior. The 2017 Freshman of the Year and an All-CCAA first team selection from 2018, Fein threw a complete game shutout and fanned six in the series finale, a 2-0 decision as the Otters and Coyotes split the weekend.

Wayne, a senior from Norco, was the top hitter for the Wildcats in a weekend where the team batted a collective .371 on the way to taking three out of four against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Chico State catcher hit safely in all four contests, batting a blistering .667 (8-for-12), reached base 11 times, cracked four doubles and drove in four runs while posting a 1.000 slugging percentage and .733 on-base percentage to help the conference-leading Wildcats improve to 18-5 overall and 16-4 in CCAA play. Wayne was also flawless on defense, catching every inning of the four-game set and throwing out one Toros baserunner.

Next up, Fein and the Otters are slated to host Cal State San Marcos for a four-game series while the No. 5 Wildcats host No. 13 UC San Diego in Chico. The series in Seaside gets underway beginning Friday while the Top 25 showdown will be contests Sunday and Monday
