Men's Track and Field Mar 12, 2019 Dominguez, Strong Take Home CCAA Track and Field Acclaim After solid finishes and provisional qualifying marks in Southern California, seniors Ruben Dominguez of Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Marcos’ Ndoto Strong have earned CCAA Track and Field Athlete of the Week for March 4-10, respectively. Dominguez raced to a fifth place finish in a field of 237 competitors in the 5,000 meters at the Oxy Distance Carnival Saturday. As the first Division II athlete to cross the finish, the Compton native’s time of 14:37.29 was good for a provisional-qualifying mark for the Cal Poly Pomona senior. Strong, recorded a throw of 16.66 meters in the shot put to take second in the field of 12 at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge. The provisional qualifying mark stands as second-best in Division II this season. Also competing in the discus, the senior from Marysville, Wash., put up a mark of 49.11 meters to take third in the event with the fourth-best throw in DII thus far this season. Cal Poly Pomona next competes at the UC Irvine Collegiate Classic this weekend, and Cal State San Marcos is slated to participate in the Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet hosted by Point Loma.
