UC San Diego Duo Sweeps Weekly Softball Awards

After helping the Tritons a four-game home sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay, No. 23 UC San Diego’s Alyssa Wing and Robyn Wampler have been selected as CCAA Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 11-17, respectively.

Wing batted .556 in the sweep of the Otters, garnering hits in five of her nine at bats. Among  the highlights for the junior from Torrance was a walk off solo homer to give the Tritons a 4-3 win in the 10th inning of game two. Additionally, Wing showed her patience at the plate, picking up three walks.

Wampler was brilliant in the circle, earning all four wins en route to back-to-back Pitcher of the Week acclaim. The lefty from Berkeley tossed 22.1 innings, including two complete games, while allowing just one earned run. Facing 78 batters during the series, Wampler allowed only eight hits and four walks while recording 15 strikeouts as the Otters hit .113 against her.

Next up, the Tritons travel to Stanislaus State for Friday and Saturday doubleheaders against the Warriors.
