Cal State East Bay’s Jeslyn Cuellar has been selected as FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week, for the week of April 6-12.
Cuellar led the Pioneers offensively as they earned a series split against Cal State San Marcos in a showdown between two of the top teams in Division II. Cuellar batted .462 (6-for-13) across four games, totaling five runs, three RBI, two home runs, and two triples while reaching base in every game. Her walk-off inside-the-park round-tripper in the series finale clinched the split for No. 8 ranked Cal State East Bay against the top ranked Cougars.
The senior shortstop from Tulare, Calif., posted a 1.794 OPS with a 1.231 slugging percentage and a .563 on-base percentage. Cuellar homered off Jordan Hill, this week’s Pitcher of the Week, in the opening game, which CSUSM won 2-1. In the series finale on Friday, with the score at 3-3 in the home-half of the seventh, Cuellar, who hammered full-count pitch to dead-centerfield that went off the fence, raced around the bases ahead of the throw for the walk-off win. She also went 3-for-4 with two triples in Thursday’s nightcap to lead CSUEB to a 6-3 win.
Cuellar is among the top five of the CCAA stats leaderboard in a number of offensive categories. She is third in slugging (.686) and fifth in batting (.401) and OPS (1.138). Cuellar shares the lead with 39 runs scored and tops the CCAA with seven triples. Her 55 hits is fourth best. Click here to see the CCAA stats leaderboard.
