The National Association of Basketball Coaches has voted Cal State East Bay's Bryan Rooney the NABC Division II Coach of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
Rooney led the Pioneers to an incredible 33-0 record to start the season. He turned around a program that was just one year removed from an 11-17 finish to record the best season in program history.
CSUEB won the CCAA regular season and tournament titles, and the NCAA West Regional en route to making the program's first-ever Elite Eight appearance. CSUEB was the first team to go undefeated in a 22-game CCAA schedule and only the fifth in the conference's nearly 90-year history.
Cal State East Bay had one of the best defensive units in the country. It ranked eighth nationally in scoring defense (63.5 ppg) and was 13th in scoring margin (12.7 ppg). The Pioneers also ranked sixth in 3-point percentage defense (.288), 13th in steals per game (10.1), and 14th in turnover margin (4.6).
Rooney was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for the second time in his career and was also voted the NABC District Coach of the Year. He is the first winner from the CCAA since 2010.
Coach Rooney also helped guide senior guard Tyree Campbell to NABC Player of the Year honors.
