Cal Poly Humboldt’s Shelby Shanks picked as FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week after dominating tournament

Cal Poly Humboldt’s Shelby Shanks is this week’s FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week after dominating the NorCal Crossover tournament.

Shanks batted .706, going 12 for 17, to lead all players in the 17-team tournament in Tracy, Calif. She posted a 1.176 slugging percentage with three doubles, a triple and a home run with a .737 on-base percentage (two walks with no strikeouts) for a 1.913 OPS. Shanks drove in seven runs and scored twice, leading the Lumberjacks to a 3-2 record. Defensively, she did not commit an error in 17 chances as the shortstop.

After a 1-for-3 game against Saint Martin’s on Friday to start the tournament (a 1-0 loss), Shanks went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI in Cal Poly Humboldt’s narrow 10-8 loss to Central Washington. On Friday, the senior from Stockton, Calif., went a combined 6-for-8 including a 4-for-4, 3-RBI game in the team’s wins over Northwest Nazarene and Simon Fraser. She belted a solo homer with a RBI double in the game against Simon Fraser. She closed out the weekend with a 2-for-3 game against MSU Billings on Sunday.

Shanks now leads the CCAA with 36 hits and ranks second in batting average (.529), slugging percentage (.956), OPS (1.549), RBI (25) and home runs (5). Her .593 on-base percentage is third best. Click here to see the CCAA stats leaderboard

Cal Poly Humboldt will take its 8-11 overall record into the opening weekend of conference action as the Lumberjacks travel to San Francisco State. The four-game series begins on Friday at 1 p.m. All games are live on FloCollege.
