Izzy Soto of Stanislaus State has been selected as the FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award after two victories to start the season.
Soto made a splash on her outdoor track debut, winning both the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs at the FPU Sunbird Invitational on Saturday, accounting for 20 of the Warriors’ team points.
The freshman from Rocklin, Calif., won the 1500-meter race in 4:36.07 before claiming the 800-meter in 2:14.90, completing an impressive distance double. Both times would have placed Soto on the podium during last May’s CCAA Track & Field Championships.
Soto was coming off a successful cross country season as she placed seventh overall at the CCAA Cross Country Championships. She is also a part of Stan State’s Distance Medley Relay team which has the ninth fastest time in the country this season.
This is the first CCAA Track Athlete of the Week award for Soto. Click here for a complete list of past CCAA Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Stanislaus State track and field will return to outdoor track action as it hosts the Kim Duyst Invitational, March 6-7.
